Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib was shot in the leg at the V Live club in Dallas on June 5 and released from the hospital June 6. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on June 6 that the bullet entered and exited Talib's leg without hitting any arteries or ligaments and required only stitches, which supported colleague Ed Werder's report that Talib did not need to undergo surgery.

The Dallas Police Department and the NFL are investigating the shooting.

Dallas Police Investigation Continues

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network shared an image from the Dallas Police Department's latest incident report for the night Talib was shot:

Rapoport noted the report says an "unknown suspect shot the complainant," with no mention of Talib having potentially shot himself or having a gun. Rapoport also shared an excerpt from the report that said one gram of marijuana was found by the police and no one was charged for it.

Dallas police told Liz Farmer of the Dallas Morning News on June 5 that Talib was one of two people injured as part of an altercation that began inside the nightclub before continuing outside. Both were taken to the hospital with "non-life-threatening injuries."

James Palmer of NFL Network reported June 7 that the Dallas police confirmed Talib was shot outside of a nightclub and described the incident as an "aggravated assault" by an "unknown suspect."

Despite Palmer's report, Rapoport reported June 7 that the "working hypothesis from many sides investigating" is Talib accidentally shot himself.

On June 15, Rapoport, citing a Dallas Police Department source, reported police are "struggling to gain intel into what happened. Thus far, few people, if anyone, are talking."

Rapoport added, "Thus far, Dallas PD does not have the weapon used the night Aqib Talib was shot. Few or no witnesses. The club hasn't confirmed he was there."

Rebecca Lopez of WFAA-TV reported June 6 that Talib told police he was at a park when he was shot, saying, "Everything was a blur, and I was too intoxicated to remember what happened."

TMZ Sports obtained footage from the scene, where gunshots can be heard:

Lopez and Jeff Darlington of NFL Network originally reported the news of Talib's injury June 5

Teammate Chris Harris Jr. said Talib "has been upbeat and himself," noting Talib will do "whatever he can to be ready for the first game of the season," per Palmer.

Talib Re-Joins Broncos after Missing Trip to White House

Wednesday, June 8

Darlington noted Talib would not be with the team for its visit to the White House on June 6. Talib eventually reported to the Broncos on June 8, arriving at the team facility, per Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com, who added that the cornerback met with the team's medical staff.

Broncos Release Statement on Talib Shooting

Sunday, June 5

Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post shared a statement from the Broncos after word of Talib's injury broke:

We are in communication with [Talib]...as he recovers from a gunshot wound suffered to his lower right leg on Sunday. ...We are glad he is OK and will make a full recovery.

Our organization has been in touch with the NFL on this matter, and we will provide additional updates as appropriate.

Talib Has History of Off-Field Issues

Talib, 30, has been in intermittent legal trouble since his NFL arrival. He was arrested on charges of battery and resisting arrest in 2009 after allegedly punching a taxi driver. In 2011, he and his mother were arrested after an altercation with his sister's boyfriend. Talib allegedly fired shots at the boyfriend, though the charges were later dropped.

While he has largely remained out of trouble since, this is the second time in 14 months Talib has allegedly found himself in a melee at a Dallas bar. Talib and his brother were investigated after an incident in April 2015 during which an unnamed man fired a shot into the air after being kicked out of the establishment.

Neither Talib nor his brother was charged in that case.
